Monsieur Klein

Monsieur Klein is a 1976 French-Italian mystery drama directed by Joseph Losey. Set in occupied France, the Kafkaesque story follows Robert Klein, an apparently Gentile Parisian art dealer who is mistaken for a Jewish man sharing his name and, unable to prove his identity, is drawn into the machinery of the Holocaust. Alain Delon, who also produced the film, plays the title role, alongside Jeanne Moreau and Michael Lonsdale. The screenplay was begun by Costa-Gavras and completed by Franco Solinas. The film premiered at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or, and received widespread critical acclaim. It won three César Awards, including Best Film, Best Director for Losey, and Best Production Design, while Delon earned a Best Actor nomination.
