The Blood of Others

The Blood of Others (French: Le Sang des autres) is a 1984 drama directed by Claude Chabrol, a French-Canadian-American co-production. Brian Moore's screenplay adapts Simone de Beauvoir's 1945 novel of the same name. Jodie Foster heads the cast, alongside Michael Ontkean, Sam Neill, Lambert Wilson, Stéphane Audran and Jean-Pierre Aumont.

Set in Paris during the German occupation, the story follows a young woman caught between the Nazi occupiers and the French Resistance. Torn between the existential and political stakes of the resistance struggle and her responsibility for the consequences of her own actions, she is drawn ever deeper into the fight.

The production was originally made as a three-hour English-language television film, which premiered on HBO on August 25, 1984. It was subsequently trimmed by roughly 40 minutes and dubbed into French for a theatrical release in Europe.
