Eşrefpaşalılar

Eşrefpaşalılar is a 2010 Turkish comedy-drama film directed by Hüdaverdi Yavuz. The director's feature debut, it revisits the urban lower-middle class milieu familiar from his earlier TV series such as Şehnaz Tango and Hayat Apartmanı. The film takes its name from İzmir's Eşrefpaşa neighborhood, known for its tough characters, and follows a community that has kept its old ways after migrating to Istanbul, until a newly appointed religious teacher arrives at the neighborhood mosque.

The story is adapted from a stage play written by lead actor Burak Tarık, based on his real-life experiences, which was successfully performed across Turkey and in European countries including Germany by Tiyatro ANSE. The cast includes Sinan Albayrak, Turgay Tanülkü, Deniz Özpınar, Burak Tarık and Ali Yaylı. Released with virtually no promotion, the film drew 218,246 viewers in its first three days and was watched by roughly 486,833 people over a 23-week run.
