The Dreamers (Düşler, Tutkular ve Suçlar)

The Dreamers, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci from a screenplay by Gilbert Adair adapted from Adair's own novel The Holy Innocents, is a 2003 romantic drama made as an international co-production between France, the United Kingdom and Italy. Set against the backdrop of the May 1968 student riots in Paris, it follows film-obsessed siblings Isabelle and Théo, who invite American student Matthew into their home while their parents are away; a friendship born of a shared passion for cinema gradually evolves into an erotic triangle.

Bertolucci weaves the film with numerous references to classical Hollywood and French New Wave cinema, with the actors reenacting famous clips in particular scenes, making it a love letter to the seventh art and to 1960s Paris. Starring Michael Pitt and Louis Garrel, the film also marked Eva Green's credited screen debut and breakthrough role, and its explicit content stirred controversy following its premiere at the 2003 Venice Film Festival.
