Not Knowing (Bilmemek)

Bilmemek (internationally titled Not Knowing) is a 2019 Turkish drama written and directed by Leyla Yılmaz. It follows Selma and Sinan, a middle-class couple who can barely stand each other anymore, and their teenage son Umut, a high school senior who plays on a water polo team and is trying to prove himself.

When rumors begin circulating at school that Umut is gay, the gossip spirals out of control and the boy suddenly disappears. As his parents search for him, they are forced to confront their worn-out marriage and realize how lost they themselves have become.

Emir Özden, Senan Kara and Yurdaer Okur lead the cast, with Çetin Sarıkartal and Levent Üzümcü in supporting roles. The film attracted attention on the festival circuit for its portrayal of a family strained by the pressure to know everything about a young person still questioning his own identity.
