Tarik Kopty — Biography

Tarik Kopty was an Arab-Israeli actor, born on 20 August 1944 in Nazareth. He worked first in education, then in journalism and translation, before turning to film and theatre from the 1970s onward. Several of the Palestinian productions he appeared in screened at the Cannes Film Festival, including Elia Suleiman's FIPRESCI-winning It Must Be Heaven and the internationally acclaimed The Time That Remains (2009), in which he played a neighbor. His other credits include Lemon Tree, The Band's Visit, Zaytoun, Omar and Dancing Arabs - A Borrowed Identity. He died in his native Nazareth on 24 February 2022; he was 77.
