Zaytoun

Movie · 2012–2013 · 3 people

Zaytoun is a drama-thriller directed by Eran Riklis, set during the 1982 Lebanon War. Israeli fighter pilot Yoni crashes behind enemy lines, parachuting down next to a Palestinian refugee camp where he is taken prisoner. There he forms an uneasy bond with Fahed, a young Palestinian refugee who watches over him. In exchange for being taken to his father's village, Fahed agrees to help the pilot escape. Though the two are enemies, they set off across a country torn apart by war, putting their differences aside in a shared struggle to survive and find a way home. The screenplay was written by Palestinian-American Nader Rizq. An Israeli-British-French co-production, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2012 and was produced and distributed by Pathé. Stephen Dorff and Abdallah El Akal head the cast.
