Güven Hokna — Biography

Audiences know Güven Hokna best as Hayriye Tekin in the drama Yaprak Dökümü, though the Turkish actress has worked on stage and in film as well as on television. She spent thirty-five years on the roster of the State Theatres, and her career carried that stage training into a broad range of screen work, from a children's programme to mainstream series.

She graduated from the Ankara State Conservatory at Hacettepe University in 1967 and made her professional stage debut in Reşat Nuri Güntekin's play Balıkesir Muhallebicisi, going on to appear in nearly thirty State Theatre productions. Her move to television came with the role of Suzi in Ferhunde Hanımlar, and in 1990 she took part in Susam Sokağı. Her real breakthrough was the character Neriman in İkinci Bahar. Her first film was Yavuz Turgul's Eşkıya (1996), where she played Sevim. In 2002 she appeared in several series at once, including Zerda, Kumsaldaki İzler and Havada Bulut, and she played Nergis Karahanlı in Kurtlar Vadisi.

Yaprak Dökümü, broadcast on Kanal D from 2006 to 2010, brought her to a new generation of viewers. Later credits include the series Bana Sevmeyi Anlat and Sen Benimsin and the film Cenazemize Hoş Geldiniz (2023). In the 2019 local elections she was the Democratic Left Party's candidate for mayor of Üsküdar.
