Paradise Now (Vaat Edilen Cennet)

Paradise Now (Arabic: الجنّة الآن) is a 2005 drama film directed by Palestinian-Dutch filmmaker Hany Abu-Assad. A co-production of the Palestinian territories, the Netherlands and Israel, the Arabic-language film runs about 90 minutes and was produced by Augustus Film and Lama Films. Abu-Assad co-wrote the screenplay with Bero Beyer and Pierre Hodgson, and the film was shot in the West Bank in 2004.

The story follows Said and Khalid, childhood friends from Nablus, during the final 48 hours after they are assigned to carry out a suicide attack in Tel Aviv; as the operation draws nearer, unexpected events gradually drive the two friends apart. The film won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and became the first Palestinian film nominated for an Academy Award in the same category, while also receiving the European Film Award for Best Screenwriter. The principal cast includes Ali Süleyman, Kais Nashef, Lubna Azabal, Hiyam Abbas and Ashraf Barhom.
