Roma (Roma, 1972 filmi)

Roma is a 1972 Italian-French semi-autobiographical comedy-drama directed by Federico Fellini, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Bernardino Zapponi. Drawing on Fellini's own move from his native Rimini to Rome as a young man, the film pays homage to the city through a series of loosely connected episodes spanning its past and present. It screened out of competition at that year's Cannes Film Festival.

With its plot kept deliberately minimal, the true protagonist is Rome herself: scenes of arriving during the Mussolini era, brothels of the fascist period, an ecclesiastical fashion show, subway excavations revealing archaeological treasures, and nighttime motorcycle cavalcades shift freely between lyricism and satire. Peter Gonzales plays the young Fellini, while well-known performers such as Marcello Mastroianni and Alberto Sordi appear in brief greetings, leaving the cast largely to newcomers.
