Rails

Rails, originally titled Rotaie, is an Italian black-and-white drama film written and directed by Mario Camerini. Shot as a silent film in 1929 at the Farnesina studios, it was subsequently sonorized using the Gaumont-Poulsen sound system and distributed in a sound version in March 1931.

The film stars Käthe von Nagy, the Hungarian actress who had found major success in Germany, alongside the Italian actor Maurizio D'Ancora; the cast also includes Daniele Crespi, Giacomo Moschini, Carola Lotti and Guido Celano. Running 89 minutes, it was one of only a handful of films released during a period when the Italian film industry had dramatically declined after the crisis of the 1920s, and together with Alessandro Blasetti's Sole it is regarded as marking the beginning of the rebirth of Italian cinema.
