Qué vida más triste

TV Series · 2008–2010 · 1 people

Qué vida más triste is a Spanish comedy production broadcast between 2008 and 2010. Created by Natxo del Agua and Rubén Ontiveros, the project began as a series made for the Internet; it was written and directed by Rubén Ontiveros. After its website received more than two million visits at the beginning of 2008, the format was adapted for television and aired on laSexta between 19 October 2008 and 28 May 2010. A total of 178 episodes were produced over seven seasons.

At the centre of the production is Borja Pérez, an ordinary young man who lives in Basauri, works as a crane operator and still lives with his parents. In the first three seasons, released on the Internet, Borja recounts his daily life to the audience while giving the impression that he is filming a video blog. Each episode opens with Borja sitting on the edge of his bed, looking at the camera and describing in an exaggerated manner something that has happened to him; because the narration is interrupted by flashbacks, however, the viewer sees how events actually unfolded and realises that he is not always honest.

With the move to television, the storytelling shifted towards openly acknowledging its own fictional nature; some episodes take place on the set, with the cameras, lights and technical crew in view. Episodes featuring fantastical events such as time travel or magic remained exceptions. Throughout the production, various actors, presenters and directors appeared in brief guest roles.
