Namus

Namus (Armenian Նամուս, "honor") is a silent Soviet drama that Hamo Beknazarian made in 1925. Shot in black and white, it is regarded as the first Armenian feature film. Some accounts give 1926 as its release year, though the film is mostly dated to 1925. It runs about 62 minutes, and its language is Russian.

The screenplay is based on Alexander Shirvanzade's 1885 novel of the same name, adapted by Beknazarian together with Shirvanzade. The story denounces the despotic customs and rigid honor codes of Caucasian family life. The film is set in Armenia and was made as a joint effort of Armenfilm and Goskinprom, the Georgian state film authority.

Besides Hıraçya Nersesyan, the cast includes Hovhannes Abelian, Hambartsum Khachanyan, Avet Avetisyan, Nina Manucharyan, Amasi Martirosyan, Samvel Mkrtchyan, Hasmik, Mikayel Garagash and Tigran Shamirkhanyan.
