My Wife

La mia signora, released internationally as My Wife, is a 1964 black-and-white Italian comedy built as an anthology of five separate episodes. The segments were helmed by three different directors, Tinto Brass, Mauro Bolognini, and Luigi Comencini, each bringing his own touch to the collection. Alberto Sordi and Silvana Mangano headline every episode, playing a variety of couples in stories that reflect the spirit of commedia all'italiana and its playful look at marriage and relations between men and women. The film was produced by Dino De Laurentiis Cinematografica. One segment in particular left a lasting mark: Comencini's episode "Eritrea" was later reworked by Sergio Corbucci, becoming the basis for his 1987 feature Rimini Rimini.
