Lola und Bilidikid (Lola + Bilidikid)
Lola + Bilidikid (German: Lola und Bilidikid) is a 1999 Turkish-German co-production drama written and directed by Kutluğ Ataman. Shot in German and Turkish, the film unfolds in the alternative underground culture of 1990s Berlin.
The story follows 17-year-old Murat, who lives with his family in Berlin. Having spent his whole life in Germany, he is considered neither fully German nor fully Turkish, and after his father's death he comes under the pressure of his older brother Osman, the new head of the household. One day Murat learns that he has another brother who was thrown out of the family years earlier for being gay, and he sets out through the streets of Berlin to find him. What he discovers is Lola, a performer who appears on stage dressed as a woman, and Lola's lover Bilidikid. The film realistically portrays the exclusion of homosexuals within Berlin's Turkish community, domestic violence and the search for identity. It stars Gandi Mukli, Baki Davrak, Erdal Yıldız and Hasan Ali Mete.
