The Cut (Kesik)
The Cut (Turkish: Kesik) is a 2014 drama film directed by Fatih Akin and co-written with Mardik Martin. It concludes the director's 'Love, Death and the Devil' trilogy begun with Head-On (2004) and The Edge of Heaven (2007). The film had its world premiere on 31 August 2014 in the main competition of the 71st Venice International Film Festival, where it contended for the Golden Lion, and opened in German cinemas on 16 October 2014.
Set against the Armenian genocide of 1915, the story follows Nazaret Manoogian, a blacksmith from Mardin who is deported from his home and separated from his family. Surviving the ordeal, he learns years later that his twin daughters may still be alive and sets out on a search that carries him from Aleppo to Havana and finally to North Dakota. Tahar Rahim stars alongside Simon Abkarian, Arsinée Khanjian, Hindi Zahra and Kevork Malikyan in this German-French-Polish co-production, which runs about 138 minutes.
