Whore Byzantium (Kahpe Bizans) (translated)

Kahpe Bizans is a Turkish comedy film directed by Gani Müjde, who co-wrote the screenplay with Kemal Kenan Ergen and Fatih Solmaz. Released on 21 January 2000 as a joint production of Özen Film, Arzu Film and Tükenmez Kalem, it is a parody of the kitsch historical and heroic Yeşilçam films of the 1970s. Drawing more than 2.5 million admissions in Türkiye, it ranked among the highest-grossing films of its era.

The story opens as the Nacaroğlu clan, fleeing drought and kangaroo attacks in their homeland of Australia, is led by a dog to Anatolia, which lies under Byzantine rule. Emperor Illetyus, told by an oracle that a child born that day will one day kill him, orders all newborns slain, so newborn triplets are set adrift on a river in baskets. Years later, the siblings — raised separately in a palace, a tribe and on the river — become entangled in the film's farcical intrigues. The cast includes Mehmet Ali Erbil, Demet Şener, Cem Davran, Hande Ataizi, Sümer Tilmaç and Ayşegül Aldinç.
