Belle de Jour (Gündüz Güzeli)

Belle de Jour (Turkish title: Gündüz Güzeli) is a 1967 French-Italian surrealist erotic psychological drama directed by Luis Buñuel. Adapted by Buñuel and Jean-Claude Carrière from Joseph Kessel's 1928 novel of the same name, the film stars Catherine Deneuve as Séverine Serizy, a young bourgeois woman married to the wealthy and handsome doctor Pierre. Although the couple appears content, Séverine remains emotionally and physically unfulfilled, and she begins spending her afternoons working in a discreet high-class brothel under the pseudonym "Belle de jour" while her husband is at work. As her secret double life unfolds, the line between her fantasies and reality grows increasingly blurred, and encounters with dangerous clients put her at risk. The supporting cast includes Jean Sorel, Michel Piccoli, Geneviève Page and Pierre Clémenti. Widely regarded as one of Buñuel's most celebrated works and a pointed critique of bourgeois morality, the film won the Golden Lion at the 1967 Venice Film Festival.
