The World's Most Beautiful Swindlers

This 1964 anthology is a crime comedy made up of five self-contained segments, each shot by a different director with its own writers and cast, all revolving around swindles carried out in cities around the world. The episodes are Hiromichi Horikawa's Tokyo story about five benefactors of a woman named Fumiko, Roman Polanski's Amsterdam-set tale of a river of diamonds, Ugo Gregoretti's Naples segment, Claude Chabrol's Paris story about the man who sold the Eiffel Tower, and Jean-Luc Godard's Marrakech episode about a great con artist. An international co-production between France, Italy and Japan, the film is close in spirit to the Italian-style comedy of the period. Performers appearing across the segments include Catherine Deneuve, Jean Seberg and Jean-Pierre Cassel.
