Goodbye Leonard

Released in 1943, the French comedy Adieu Léonard (Goodbye Leonard) was scripted by the well-known poet and screenwriter Jacques Prévert. Its leads include the singer-actor Charles Trenet along with Pierre Brasseur and Julien Carette, while a young Simone Signoret, still early in her career, turns up in a minor part. The cast also features Albert Rémy, Guy Decomble, Jacques Dufilho and Laure Paillette.

Production design was handled by art director Max Douy, and shooting took place at the Francoeur Studios in Paris. Distribution was handled by Pathé, one of France's largest film companies at the time. Made during the wartime years yet bringing together a notably popular ensemble of performers, it stands as one of the period pieces representative of classic French screen comedy.
