Final Cut: Ladies and Gentlemen (Final Cut: Hölgyeim és uraim)

Final Cut: Ladies and Gentlemen (Hungarian title Final Cut: Hölgyeim és uraim) is an experimental Hungarian film from 2012, directed by György Pálfi. Described as a romantic comedy and drama, it is a montage, in effect a mashup, assembled from 451 clips of the best-known films in cinema history. Running about 84 minutes, it was chosen as the closing film of the Cannes Classics section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

Rather than shooting new footage, Pálfi cuts existing scenes together into a single love story whose protagonists change from one scene to the next. Faces from different countries and eras thus meet inside one narrative, among them Marcello Mastroianni, Jeanne Moreau, Brigitte Bardot, Marlon Brando, Alain Delon, Greta Garbo, Rita Hayworth, Giulietta Masina, Bruno Ganz and Tony Leung. The film contains English, French, German and Hungarian speech.

Pálfi wrote the screenplay with Zsófia Ruttkay, and the production was made with the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest.
