Carmel
Carmel is a 2009 film written and directed by Amos Gitai, made as a co-production between Israel, Italy and France and performed in French. In this biographical work, Gitai turns the camera toward his own life and family background, using personal recollection as a way to revisit Israel's recent past. The picture blends intimate memory with broader national history rather than following a conventional storyline. Alongside Jeanne Moreau and Makram Khoury, the cast includes figures such as Samuel Fuller, Enrico Lo Verso and Sasson Gabai. Running about ninety-three minutes, the film belongs to the strand of Gitai's cinema concerned with identity, conflict and remembrance, approached here through a distinctly autobiographical frame.
