Borsalino (Borsalino Çetesi)

Borsalino is a 1970 French-Italian gangster film directed by Jacques Deray. Adapted from Eugène Saccomano's novel Bandits à Marseille, it follows two young hoodlums striving to become the bosses of the Marseille underworld, inspired by the real-life gangsters Paul Carbone and François Spirito. The film brought together Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo, the two biggest stars of French cinema, as co-headliners for the first time, alongside Catherine Rouvel.

Shot in Marseille in the autumn of 1969, the film was entered into the 20th Berlin International Film Festival and drew over 4.7 million admissions in France, ranking among the year's top box-office hits. Its title, suggested by Delon, comes from the Italian hatmaker Borsalino, and Claude Bolling's score was also widely praised. A sequel, Borsalino & Co., starring only Delon, followed in 1974.
