White Nights (Beyaz Geceler)

White Nights (original title: Le notti bianche) is a 1957 Italian-French romantic drama film directed by Luchino Visconti. Adapted from Fyodor Dostoevsky's 1848 short story of the same name, the screenplay was written by Visconti and Suso Cecchi d'Amico, with Maria Schell, Marcello Mastroianni and Jean Marais in the leading roles.

The film follows two lonely souls who meet by chance one night: Mario, a shy clerk, and Natalia, who awaits the return of a former lover. Noted for Giuseppe Rotunno's black-and-white cinematography and Nino Rota's score, it is considered a key work from Visconti's move away from neorealism and won the Silver Lion at the 1957 Venice Film Festival.
