Anatomy of a Marriage: My Days with Jean-Marc

Movie · 1964 · 2 people

"Jean-Marc ou la Vie conjugale" (1964) is a black-and-white drama directed and written by André Cayatte, a co-production of France, West Germany and Italy. It forms the first part of the "La Vie conjugale" diptych, presenting five key events in a couple's life from the husband's point of view; the companion piece, "Françoise ou la Vie conjugale", retells the story of the same marriage break-up from the woman's perspective.

The French-language film stars Marie-José Nat as Françoise, Michel Subor as Roger and Macha Méril as Nicole, with a supporting cast including Alfred Adam and Jacques Monod. Running about 112 minutes, the film stands out for its dual-perspective approach to the anatomy of a failing marriage.
