Philippe Morier-Genoud — Biography

Philippe Morier-Genoud was born on 2 March 1944 in Thonon-les-Bains, France. While studying philosophy and education in Grenoble, he met director Georges Lavaudant and turned toward the stage, going on to work with the Centre Dramatique National des Alpes in Grenoble, the Théâtre National Populaire in Villeurbanne, and later the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe in Paris.

He made his film debut in 1981 in François Truffaut's The Woman Next Door, and went on to collaborate with directors such as Louis Malle, Jean-Paul Rappeneau, Bertrand Tavernier and Bernardo Bertolucci, appearing in memorable supporting roles in Au Revoir les Enfants, Cyrano de Bergerac and Mayrig. In recognition of his decades on stage and screen, he was made an Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, a Knight of the National Order of Merit, and a Knight of the Legion of Honour.
