Metin Çekmez — Biography

Metin Çekmez was born on 26 July 1945 in Istanbul and graduated from Pertevniyal High School. In 1962 he and his older brother Dinçer Çekmez passed the entrance exam for the Istanbul City Theatres and appeared as extras in Hamlet, after which Metin studied for two years at a private journalism school. He joined the Istanbul City Theatres company in 1970, learning the craft through years of stage work, and made his film debut in 1972 in Ertem Eğilmez's Tatlı Dillim. Appearing in close to forty films and series over his career, he became known for playing Cevdet in Süper Baba, Burhan Evliyaoğlu in Binbir Gece (1001 Nights), Rıza Yılmaz in Adını Feriha Koydum, and Ziya Yörükhan in Kaderimin Yazıldığı Gün. The younger brother of actor Dinçer Çekmez, he died of tongue-root cancer while under treatment in Aydın on 25 August 2021, and was buried at Kuşadası Davutlar Cemetery.
