Meryem Uzerli — Biography

Meryem Uzerli is a German-Turkish actress born on August 12, 1983 in Kassel, Germany. Her mother is German and her father Turkish; she grew up in Germany and moved to Hamburg to study acting. She trained in acting and theatre at the Schauspielstudio Frese and from 2008 appeared in various German productions.

In 2011 she gained worldwide fame with the character of Hürrem Sultan in Muhteşem Yüzyıl; the role earned her two Golden Butterfly Awards, and in 2012 she was named Woman of the Year by GQ Turkey. She played Selin in Gecenin Kraliçesi (2016) and Suzi in Eşkıya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz (2015-2017).

In cinema she appeared in Annemin Yarası (2016), Cingöz Recai (2017), Öteki Taraf (2017) and Kovan (2018). In 2024 she acted in Ru and Şakir Paşa Ailesi: Mucizeler ve Skandallar; in 2026 she returned to the spotlight with İmroz'da Bahar, the film that reunites her with Halit Ergenç after many years.
