Humayun Tebrizyan — Biography

Homayun, whose real name was Mohammad-Ali Tabrizian, was an actor who appeared in dozens of films in Iran's commercial cinema of the 1960s and 1970s. He is best remembered for Topoli and Soltane Ghalbha, and in the first of these he played the title character. He kept appearing on screen regularly into the early 1980s and died on 18 July 2025, aged 88.

His earliest known films are The Skint and The Laughing Widows, both from 1961. In 1966 he was in Hatam-e Taei, Beggars of Tehran, Elephant and Teacup and Emrooz va Farda (as Parandeh). Between 1968 and 1973 he appeared in many films, including Qaroon's Love, Gypsy's Wrath, Charkh-E-Bazigar, Prostitute and The Owner of Hell, and played Kamaleddin in Three Ruby Eyes, Mirza in Baba Shamal, Saeed in Golden Egg Chicken and Mohsen in Mr. Jahel. Later he was in Shahrag (1975), Mard dar atash (1976) and Johnny va topol (1977), in which he played two characters, Jafar and Jalal (Johnny). He is also credited as a producer.

Some of his films were also shown in Turkey: Hırsız Kız (1968), Adsız Cengaver (as Köse), Güzel Şoför (as Mehmet), İşportacı Kız (as Zeki) and İki Esir (as Mistik) are among them. Some sources give his birthplace as Tabriz, but he was born in Mashhad.
