Engin Akyürek — Biography

Engin Akyürek, born on October 12, 1981 in Ankara, is a Turkish actor and writer. He is a graduate of the History Department of Ankara University's Faculty of Language, History and Geography; with no formal acting training, he entered television thanks to his placement in the Türkiye'nin Yıldızları contest and became known in 2004 with the role of Kadir in Yabancı Damat.

He played Cevat in his first feature film Kader (2006); Mustafa Bulut in Bir Bulut Olsam (2009) was his first major leading role. His real breakthrough came with the character Kerim Ilgaz in Fatmagül'ün Suçu Ne? (2010). His performance as Ömer Demir in Kara Para Aşk (2014) earned him the Best Actor award at the 2015 Seoul International Drama Awards and an International Emmy nomination.

He starred in Ölene Kadar (2017), Sefirin Kızı (2019, Sancar Efeoğlu) and Adım Farah (2023, Tahir Lekesiz), and appeared in Kaçış (2022). A brand ambassador for Shell and Disney+ Türkiye, in 2026 Akyürek published his story collection İsimsiz and made headlines with the series Enfes Bir Akşam, in which he shares the lead with Aslı Enver.
