Andon Kafecopulos — Biography
Andon Kafecopulos, known in Greek as Antonis Kafetzopoulos, is an actor and one of the recognisable faces of Greek cinema and television; he has also worked as a director and screenwriter. He has appeared in more than fifty films since 1980. He is remembered above all for his roles in Plato's Academy and Unfair World, and for the series Kai oi Pantremenoi Ehoun Psyhi.
Born in Istanbul, he entered the law school of the University of Thessaloniki in 1969 but left his studies in 1971. In the early years of his screen career he turned up in works such as Dracula of Exarcheia and To minore tis avgis (both 1983) and Two Turkish Eggs (1987). From the 1990s he was also a regular on television: in Kai oi Pantremenoi Ehoun Psyhi, broadcast from 1997 to 2000, he played Andreas Akamatos and reached a wide audience. Around the same time he acted in Female Company (1999), Piso Porta (2000) and My Best Friend (2001).
At the end of the 2000s he played Stavros in Filippos Tsitos's Plato's Academy (2009) and Sotiris in Unfair World (2011). He won Hellenic Film Academy Awards for these two roles, and the best actor prize at the San Sebastián Film Festival for Unfair World. Later he took parts in Poker Face (2012), Moderna Oikogeneia (2014) and Tritos Orofos (2023), and he also appears in György Pálfi's film Tavuk.
