My Best Friend
My Best Friend (Greek: O kalyteros mou filos) is a 2001 Greek comedy co-directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and Lakis Lazopoulos, marking Lanthimos' feature directorial debut. Released on 2 March 2001 and running about 104 minutes, it screened in the competitive section of the 42nd Thessaloniki International Film Festival, with music composed by Nikko Patrelakis.
The story follows two lifelong friends who have spent years provoking and cornering each other; when one man's affair with the other's wife comes to light, both their marriages and their friendship spiral into a chaos of lies and sexuality. The cast includes Lakis Lazopoulos, Antonis Kafetzopoulos, Vera Krouska and Smaragda Karydi. The film was a box-office success in Greece, selling some 350,000 tickets, with Variety noting its frenetic energy and daring humor.
