The Priest's Wife
La moglie del prete (The Priest's Wife), Dino Risi's 1970 Italian-French comedy, stars Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. Made in the same year that Italy legalized divorce, the film works in the commedia all'italiana tradition and takes satirical aim at the Catholic Church's requirement of priestly celibacy. Hoping to reach an international audience, the production was shot in English and then, following standard Italian practice of the era, overdubbed in the studio. A song performed by Loren, "Anyone", was also issued as a single. The picture runs roughly 109 minutes and was written by Ruggero Maccari and Bernardino Zapponi.
