The Gentleman from Epsom

Le Gentleman d'Epsom, known in English as The Gentleman from Epsom, is a 1962 French-Italian co-production comedy directed by Gilles Grangier from a screenplay credited to Albert Simonin, Grangier and Michel Audiard. Jean Gabin takes the lead, with Madeleine Robinson and Frank Villard among the principal players, and Louis de Funès also appearing in the ensemble. The picture was produced by S.I.P.R.A. Studio work was carried out at the Saint-Maurice Studios in Paris, while the racing material was captured on location at the Enghien-Soisy and Longchamp racecourses on the edge of the city. Art director Jacques Colombier was responsible for the set design. Running roughly 84 minutes, the film builds its story around the horse-racing milieu, told in the spirit of the era's French comedy and carried by the sharp dialogue for which Audiard was celebrated.
