Tahmina (Tahmine) (translated)

Tahmine (Azerbaijani Təhminə, also known as Təhminə və Zaur) is an Azerbaijani drama made in 1993, running along melodramatic and romantic lines. Rasim Ocakov directed it. The screenplay is by the writer Anar (Anar Rzayev), adapted from his own novel Beşmərtəbəli Evin Altıncı Mərtəbəsi (“The Sixth Floor of a Five-Storey Building”), written in 1974-78. The production, of about 115 minutes, came from the “Ocaq” independent studio and was funded by a Turkish businessman.

At its centre is a passionate love affair between Zaur, who comes from a wealthy family, and Tahmine, a divorced woman doing her best to get by. Because it unfolds in a conservative society, the relationship brings the couple many obstacles. The cast includes Hasanağa Turabov, Meral Konrat, Fakhraddin Manafov, Zarnigar Agakisiyeva, Hasan Mammadov and Larisa Xələfova.

The film is counted among the best productions made in Azerbaijan in the 1990s. A stage version of the novel was also shown in 2001 at İBB City Theatres, directed by Can Doğan.
