The Story of Piera (Storia di Piera)

The Story of Piera (Italian: Storia di Piera) is a 1983 drama film directed by Marco Ferreri, a co-production between Italy, France and West Germany. It adapts the autobiographical book of the same name by actress Piera Degli Esposti and writer Dacia Maraini, with Ferreri, Esposti and Maraini sharing screenplay credit. Isabelle Huppert, Hanna Schygulla and Marcello Mastroianni lead the cast, while filming took place in Sabaudia, Latina and Pontinia. The story traces Piera's life and her complicated bond with her mother. Selected for the main competition at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival, where it vied for the Palme d'Or, the film earned Schygulla the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Eugenia.
