Nitrato d'argento

Nitrato d'argento is a 1996 French-Italian documentary directed by Marco Ferreri. Its title points to silver nitrate, a light-sensitive chemical compound present in photographic and motion-picture film stock. Written by Ferreri together with Gianni Romoli, the roughly 88-minute film belongs to the final phase of the director's career and abandons conventional storytelling in favor of a reflection on the physical substance of cinema and the history of the moving image. Among those appearing on screen are Iaia Forte and Éric Berger. The work is regarded as a personal meditation on the film medium itself, expressing Ferreri's fascination with the very material from which movies are made.
