Movie · 1967 · 3 people

Un homme de trop ("A Man Too Many"), also known internationally as Shock Troops, is a 1967 French-Italian film directed by Costa-Gavras. Sitting where war film, drama and thriller meet, it runs about 110 minutes and was shot in French. It is adapted from Jean-Pierre Chabrol's autobiographical novel of the same name, published in 1958.

The story centres on a French Resistance unit fighting the Germans in the Second World War. The "extra man" who joins the group later is the character played by Michel Piccoli, and he becomes a source of tension and distrust. Jean-Claude Brialy and Bruno Cremer lead the cast alongside Jacques Perrin, Gérard Blain, Claude Brasseur and Michel Piccoli. Charles Vanel, François Périer, Pierre Clémenti, Marc Porel, Guy Mairesse, Mario David, Michel Creton and Michel Modo also appear.

Costa-Gavras, Daniel Boulanger and Jean-Pierre Chabrol wrote the screenplay together. Producer Harry Saltzman has a "presented by" credit. The film was entered in the competition of the 5th Moscow International Film Festival.
