Seven Days... Seven Nights (Moderato cantabile (film))

Seven Days... Seven Nights (French: Moderato cantabile) is a 1960 black-and-white French-Italian drama directed by Peter Brook, based on Marguerite Duras's 1958 novel of the same name. Its title comes from a musical direction meaning moderately and melodiously. The story unfolds in a small port town, where Anne Desbarèdes, the wife of a wealthy industrialist, feels suffocated by her monotonous bourgeois existence. After witnessing a murder in a café, she becomes obsessed with the crime and keeps returning to the scene, where she meets Chauvin, a young worker. Their repeated encounters grow into an intense, ambiguous intimacy. Jeanne Moreau and Jean-Paul Belmondo lead the cast, with Pascale de Boysson in a supporting role. The film was entered into competition at the 1960 Cannes Film Festival, where Moreau won the Best Actress award.
