Les Siestes grenadine

Les Siestes grenadine is a 1999 Tunisian-French co-production drama directed by Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud, a prominent figure of Tunisian cinema. Written by Moncef Dhouib, with music by the West African singer and composer Ismaël Lô, the film was produced with the participation of Tunisian television.

Notable for its bilingual use of French and Arabic, the film offers a portrait of Tunisian society about a decade before the 2010–2011 revolution. This multilingual approach resonates with the themes of cultural belonging and in-betweenness that frequently run through Ben Mahmoud's work. The cast includes Lubna Azabal, who would later become one of the most sought-after actresses in European cinema.
