Les Hussards

Movie · 1955 · 3 people

Les Hussards is a 1955 French comedy directed by Alex Joffé. The film is based on Pierre-Aristide Bréal's stage play of the same name, adapted for the screen by Gabriel Arout, with Cocinor handling production. The principal roles go to Bernard Blier, Giovanna Ralli and Bourvil, while Georges Wilson, Virna Lisi and Louis de Funès take supporting parts; Albert Rémy and Jess Hahn also appear. Running about 102 minutes, the picture reached audiences abroad under several different titles, including "Cavalrymen" for international English-language release, "La piccola guerra" in Italy and "Huszárok" in Hungary. Bringing together many of the familiar faces of the period, it represents the kind of theatrical adaptation that French popular comedy of the mid-1950s frequently relied on, transferring the play's lighthearted story to the screen.
