Le Guignolo

Le Guignolo is a 1980 French-Italian comedy directed by Georges Lautner and starring Jean-Paul Belmondo, with Michel Galabru in a supporting role. The original title comes from Italian prison slang, where it designates a small-time, third-rate swindler. The screenplay was written by Jean Vautrin and Michel Audiard, and the film runs about 90 minutes in French.

The picture marks the second of five collaborations between Lautner and Belmondo. Their partnership had begun the previous year with Flic ou Voyou and would continue with Le Professionnel (1981), Joyeuses Pâques (1984) and L'Inconnu dans la maison (1992). Released in 1980, the film belongs to the popular strand of French crime comedy that made Belmondo one of the era's biggest box-office draws.
