Le Diable et les Dix Commandements

Directed by Julien Duvivier, this 1962 French-Italian drama is an anthology film built around sketches inspired by the Ten Commandments. The original version comprises seven sketches, while prints shown in Germany and Japan contained eight; the second sketch was cut from the theatrical release and remained unseen for years before being restored for the DVD and Blu-ray editions.

Duvivier assembled much of French cinema's star power for the project: Michel Simon, Fernandel, Alain Delon, Louis de Funès, Lino Ventura, Danielle Darrieux, Charles Aznavour, Jean-Claude Brialy, Micheline Presle and Françoise Arnoul, joined by Hollywood actor Mel Ferrer. The episodes set human failings against the hope of redemption, while a snake voiced by Claude Rich delivers the Devil's commentary.
