Facing Windows (Karşı Pencere)

Movie · 2003–2005 · 3 people

Facing Windows (original Italian title La finestra di fronte) is a 2003 romantic drama directed by Ferzan Özpetek, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Gianni Romoli. A co-production of Italy, Portugal and Turkey set in Rome, the film features music by Andrea Guerra and is regarded as a mature work in which Özpetek blends classical filmmaking with modern narrative techniques while staying true to his personal style.

The story follows Giovanna, an accountant at a poultry-packing company who is unhappy in her routine marriage to Filippo. Their lives shift when they take in an elderly man found on the street who has lost his memory. As Giovanna's attraction to Lorenzo, a young man living in the building opposite, grows stronger, the old man's past reaches back to the autumn of 1943 and a buried secret. Starring Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Massimo Girotti, Raoul Bova, Filippo Nigro and Serra Yılmaz, the film won several David di Donatello awards and the Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary.
