Headwinds

Headwinds (original title Des vents contraires) is a 2011 French drama film directed by Jalil Lespert. It is adapted from Olivier Adam's novel of the same name, published in 2009, with a screenplay co-written by Adam, Marion Laine, and Lespert.

The life of writer Paul Anderen is turned upside down when his wife Sarah suddenly disappears without a trace, leaving behind their two young children. Paul spends a year in their Paris home waiting and searching for her, but his efforts lead nowhere; he exhausts his savings and blames himself for her departure. Seeking a fresh start, he moves with the children to Saint-Malo, the coastal town where he grew up, settling in the family house inherited from his father. There, however, he must confront what he left behind, and new surprises await him.

The film stars Benoît Magimel as Paul, alongside Isabelle Carré, Audrey Tautou, and Antoine Duléry, with Ramzy Bedia and Lubna Azabal also in the cast.
