Crossing (Geçiş (film, 2024))

Crossing (Turkish: Geçiş) is a 2024 drama film written and directed by Levan Akin. A co-production between Sweden, Turkey, Georgia, Denmark and France, it was produced under French Quarter Film and Bir Film and features dialogue in English, Turkish and Georgian. The story follows a search that stretches from Georgia to Istanbul.

Retired teacher Lia sets out to keep a promise made to her late sister by tracking down her long-missing niece, Tekla. Learning that her niece may be living in Turkey, Lia travels to Istanbul accompanied by her young neighbor Achi, and there she meets Evrim, a lawyer fighting for transgender rights. Mzia Arabuli, Lucas Kankava and Deniz Dumanlı lead the cast. The film had its world premiere on 15 February 2024 in the Panorama section of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, was released in Sweden on 22 March 2024 by TriArt Film, and received the IFFI ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal at the 55th International Film Festival of India.
