Railway (Demiryol) (translated)

Demiryol (Railway) is a 1979 Turkish drama film directed by Yavuz Özkan, who co-wrote the screenplay with Mahmut Tali Öngören. Also known as Demir Yol and Fırtına İnsanları (Storm People), with music by Ergüder Yoldaş, this political labor film depicts a strike launched by railway workers at Haydarpaşa Station amid harsh working conditions and a deepening economic crisis.

Workers' leader Hasan, played by Fikret Hakan, battles pressure from bosses and strikebreakers while his brother Bülent (Tarık Akan) is drawn into an armed organization's conflict; unable to break the solidarity, their opponents go so far as to set fire to the station that has become the strike's symbol. The cast also includes Güler Ökten. Withdrawn from the 1979 Golden Orange Festival over censorship demands, the film received the Best Film award at the 2011 "Late Golden Oranges" ceremony.
