A Handful of Paradise (Bir Avuç Cennet) (translated)

A Handful of Paradise is a 1985 Swedish-Turkish co-production drama written and directed by Muammer Özer. Running 104 minutes, the film tackles the housing crisis fueled by decades of internal migration, inflation and income inequality in Turkey, adopting a firmly realistic style. It was produced by Mine Film, Devkino and Belge Film, with cinematography by Hüseyin Özşahin and music by Tarık Öcal.

Emine and Kamil come to Istanbul hoping for a better life, only to discover that the relatives they counted on have died, leaving them homeless with their two children. Unable to afford rent, the couple restores an abandoned bus and turns it into a modest home, though their fragile happiness does not last. Tarık Akan (Kamil) and Hale Soygazi (Emine) lead the cast, joined by Yavuzer Çetinkaya, Savaş Yurttaş and Selçuk Uluergüven.
