Deniz Denizciler wrote and directed the Turkish romantic comedy Ağır Romantik (Heavy Romantic). Running about 97 minutes, it opened in Turkish cinemas on Valentine's Day, 14 February 2020, and in Azerbaijan on 5 March in CinemaPlus theatres. In Turkey it drew 84,296 admissions and took roughly 1.4 million lira (1,427,793 TL).

The story is set in Istanbul. Aslı, the daughter of an artistic mother and a professor father, studies at a conservatoire. While she walks through Beyoğlu a pickpocket steals her bag, and she is badly frightened. Kerem, who saw it happen, finds the bag and brings it back; the two keep seeing each other and soon begin a relationship. But Kerem presents himself to her as someone else. He says he is a finance expert, when in fact his father heads Istanbul's biggest pickpocketing gang. What follows turns the happiest day of a couple from two different worlds into one they will never forget. Tuvana Türkay plays Aslı and Onur Tuna plays Kerem, with Sermiyan Midyat and Altan Erkekli completing the main cast; Servet Pandur is credited as Nejla Egeli.

A music video for the song "Zor Aşk" was released to promote the film. Premiere screenings took place in Istanbul on 12 February and in Baku on 7 March.

Through different eyes

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

A light romantic comedy timed for Valentine's Day. Kerem presents himself as a finance specialist, but his father heads a gang of bag snatchers; the lie sits at the centre of this sweet story. At 97 minutes it is short and easy. Fine for teens and adults; since there is a snatching and gang storyline, take a quick look before watching with younger ones.

Action & Thriller Fan Puts pace, tension and set pieces first; little patience for slow drama.

A gang of snatchers, a stolen bag, a gang-boss father: it sounds like a thriller, but this is a romantic comedy with the love story up front. At 97 minutes it is short enough not to drag. Still, anyone expecting tension or action could be disappointed; the pace is built on flirting and lies.

Yeşilçam Nostalgic A viewer raised on the classics, looking for warm storytelling and strong acting.

A love between young people from two different worlds, a lie and its consequences: a skeleton that recalls the rich-poor love stories of Yeşilçam. Familiar names such as Sermiyan Midyat and Altan Erkekli in the cast add warmth. Whether it catches the finesse and sincerity of the old masters is debatable; the familiar moulds of modern romantic comedy may weigh heavily here too. Still, a film about the flutter of the first days of love and the sweet trouble of a lie may carry a warmth worth watching on Valentine's Day.
