Sermiyan Midyat — Biography
Born December 2, 1974, in Ankara's Çankaya district to a family originally from Mardin, Sermiyan Midyat moved to Istanbul with his family at age seven. After abandoning chemistry studies at Istanbul University for a business degree, he trained in theatre under masters such as Ferhan Şensoy, Derya Baykal, Rasim Öztekin, and Tuncel Kurtiz at Nöbetçi Tiyatro, which he joined by exam in 1998.
He played Enişte in the film "Pardon" (2005), Arıza Hamza in the series "Emret Komutanım," and İbrahim in "Ay Lav Yu" (2010), which he also directed and which earned him Best Actor and Best Director honors at the Boston International Film Festival. He went on to reach wide audiences as Faruk in "Hükümet Kadın" and its sequel, Fadıl in "Bir Baba Hindu," and Okan in "Tut Yüreğimden Anne," while also writing song lyrics for several Turkish pop singers.
In 2026 he remained active on multiple fronts — filming the series "Damat Mektebi" in Diyarbakır, touring with his "Sermiyan Midnight" stand-up show, and winning a compensation lawsuit against a production company over the film "Cellabi," which was never made.
